Julia Harris
Mother of two, Julia Harris, is managing director of The Housekeeper Company and responsible for client liaison. She set up North West Childcare in 1999 when she was disappointed with the quality of agency she encountered in her own search for a nanny for her sons.
The success of her expanding company, and ongoing contact with client families, led to the identification of another gap in the domestic workers? market ? quality housekeeping and household management professionals. As a result of increased demand for this aspect of the business, The Housekeeper Company was ?born? in 2004.
Following widespread demand from delighted Housekeeper Company clients across London, Julia subsequently launched the Childcare Recruitment Company, which has gone on to emulate the success of its northern counterpart providing first class childcare for families. Currently involved in lobbying issues relating to domestic workers, Julia and colleagues have recently contributed to a BBC documentary on the subject.
Julia is a passionate advocate for families’ rights to quality and flexible childcare and is currently campaigning for the introduction of regulation of all nanny agencies in England. She has advised Granada Media on a Coronation Street storyline involving nannies and her expert views on childcare have featured in the national press.
As Julia explains, she has found herself in a similar situation to most of her client families and instinctively knows the best housekeeping or childcare solution to recommend: 'As a mother myself, I know exactly what I?d want for my own children and my own home ? and I instinctively apply those same rules for my clients.'
