It has come to our attention that some of our clients are looking to employ a nanny called Mary Poppins.

We would strongly recommend that if you come into contact with this nanny, Mary Poppins, or any of her contemporaries, you do not leave your children unattended in their company,  as we believe she is not fit to take care of children of any age, for the following reasons:-

  • We have reason to believe that Mary Poppins holds no recognized childcare qualification.
  • She has not at any time been DBS cleared and does not does she hold a First Aid Certificate.
  • She is not registered with any reputable nanny or childcare agencies.
  • She has no CV, in fact her work related history and previous experience is all very hazy.
  • She does not supply potential employers with references from any previous positions.
  • According to her previous employers, Mr & Mrs Banks, of Cherry Tree Avenue, London, she just appeared at their home for an interview, without making an appointment, or sending her CV, it was like she just came down the chimney and persuaded them to hire her.
  • She is very unprofessional, over familiar, opinionated and bossy with the children.
  • Mr Banks told us that Mary Poppins certainly does not know her place and constantly oversteps the mark.
  • She gives the children dubious looking medicine without parental permission. One parent alleged  that she felt that she had drugged the children in her care, as they came up with all sorts of strange stories of adventures they had been on with dancing penguins and riding on a carousel where the horses take off, to name a couple of incidents.
  • She introduces her male companion to the children without the parent’s knowledge and approval and the male companion has almost certainly not been DBS checked.
  • She has little or no regard for the children’s safety, taking them into dangerous situations like dancing up on a roof.
  • One employer spoke of her using a form of “witchcraft” when it came to tidying up to avoid having to muck in when doing her normal nanny duties.
  • Mr & Mrs Banks said that she refused to follow their direction of what they wanted her to do but followed her own agenda.
  • Mary Poppins  refused to sign a contract of employment with Mr & Mrs Banks, so that when it came time to leave Mr & Mrs Banks’ employment she did not give them proper notice, but just said she had to leave when the wind turned. She obviously had personal issues she needed to resolve.
  • Mary was selfish and thoughtless as she left the children vulnerable, at a time when the family was in a state of turmoil, as Mr Banks had just been let go from his job at the Bank.

As your children are so precious, we recommend that you only recruit a nanny using a reputable nanny agency, such as ourselves, as we can ensure that these rogue nannies, like Mary Poppins, are not allowed to work with or be left in sole charge with young children.
